Such a subjective question!  We’ve done our utmost to compile a list for you (here) of the Best Hearing Aids of 2024 (as of August 2024).

A definite contender for late entry on the Top 10 Hearing Aids of 2024 has to be the Phonak Audeo Sphere.  It’s arguably as chunky as your early 90’s platforms but the second chip packed with AI (and not coronary heart disease) is a real game changer.

Hearing aids for tinnitus.

We’ve done a lot of research.  We’ve read some articles and asked some friends and actually drawn on our own first hand experiences and we can categorically state that tinnitus does not rock (unlike the too loud gigs that possibly caused it in the first place)!

We, also, asked Chat GPT for the ‘wackiest tinnitus cures’.  It seems there’s a lot of them out there.  At the time of typing we’re not sure which are legal and even less sure we want to find out!  However, we do know that Receiver in Canal hearing aids can be a great help.  Just two of the reasons are that improving the level of sound going into the ear helps distract the brain away from those pesky noises.  Also, because, many hearing aids come with tinnitus blocking programmes.  Drop onto our Tinnitus page for more info.

What if my hearing aid breaks down?

In the very unlikely event that your hearing aid breaks down, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered for 12 – 60 months.  Hearing aids are brilliantly reliable little things.  There’s not much you can’t fix in life with duct tape and a Martini.  With hearing aids it’s a battery and a pipe cleaner (all sounds a bit Blue Peter for a minute).  Let’s not forget the toaster and a cuddly toy and…. OK, sorry, you’re not that old, it’s just us!

Bluetooth Hearing Aids.

So ‘what did the Bluetooth ever do for us?’.  Well, there’s the direct streaming of audio to our hearing aids?  Hmm, ok, but what else?  Well there’s the option of remotely adjusting our hearing aids too?  So, we think bluetooth to hearing aids is a bit like the slicer to bread.  Brilliant and some couldn’t do without it but actually bread and hearing aids are still pretty good just as they come too!

Now for the sensible part:  Bluetooth hearing aids offer seamless streaming of audio from many devices, including all smartphones. All of the new and latest hearing aids from Affordable Hearing offer direct bluetooth streaming. As do many of our cheaper, second hand, models. Some of the more economical options are bluetooth enabled but require an intermediary accessory, many of which are available here.

Hearing aids and dementia.

Have you heard the news today (sung in a vaguely Sinatraesque way!)?  It’s written all over …..  Well, acutally it’s even made The Lancet that uncorrected hearing loss can considerably increase the incidence of dementia.

Our amazing brains are brilliant at adapting and working to overcome obstacles.  In the case of hearing loss.  If the brain isn’t receiving electrical sound signals then it switches off focus to that part and puts all of it’s energy into compensating in other areas.  If it is distracted for too long it forgets (permanently) to check back to see what might be going on in those other areas.  This diversion of resources, coupled with the often social isolation induced by struggling to keep up with conversations has, again, been proven to increase the risk of developing dementia.  If that’s not a compelling reason to ‘keep calm and get a refurbished hearing aid’, we’re not sure what is?

We did say “your wish is our command” so here’s your genie!  It’s probably best for us to manage your expectations.  We can grant untold wishes…… if they relate to Affordable Hearing Aids which by definition won’t break the bank (or lamp).  We’re pretty good at trying to minimise our footprint whilst granting (refurbished) hearing aid wishes.  We’ve got the T-shirt when it comes to smashing NHS waiting lists out of the park and actually we’re probably most proud of the hearing aids we can supply free to people with no NHS to mind the queue for!  We couldn’t do any of it without you!
