Looking for an Oldie?
Sorry for the random daisy image - we loved it, so we did!

Looking for an Oldie?
Ever lost or broken a hearing aid? Were you told that your old favourite was no longer available? Did you have to buy a new pair leaving a perfectly good one all alone? We’re on a mission to end hearing aid loneliness. Like us hearing aids thrive on long, rewarding relationships in their later years.
Just one....
Just one (Cornetto)! Anyone else suddenly seeing pretty girls hanging off bridges and an Italian chap singing about icecream? In case you’re too young or need a reminder here’s the frozen cream warbler in action:

Now try getting that out of your head!!
Sorry, we meant: Just one hearing aid. If that’s all you need, especially if it’s an old favourite (like your gardening shoes?), we’ll do our best for you.

You've got a friend in us!

Looking for an oldie? You aren’t alone………! Lots of us lose a hearing aid.
We’re super proud of our ‘looking for an oldie’ initiaitive. Part of our mission to make sustainable hearing aids affordable. We‘re here to help you every step of the way. All you have to do is call…. You’ve got a friend in us! It’s all gone very Carole King. Possibly an improvement on the Cornetto man. Here’s a link, in case you have a couple of minutes for a listen? Such a lovely song.
Busting a few myths!
If we had a penny for every time we’ve heard people have had to buy a new pair of hearing aids when they just lose one, we’d….. Well, actually we’d probably still do exactly what we do. Our best to make hearing aids affordable. We’d also carry on trying to add to the ’emporium of legacy hearing aid curios’ we have in the cupboard (in case you need one). Not to mention trying to spread love through hearing aids wherever we can. These are the 3 biggest ‘noooooo’s’ of why you shouldn’t be looking for an oldie!
Old models aren't available?

– oh but they are – here! It’s also always a good idea to call us and get us to look in our amazing and capacious cupboards. We’ll probably have just ‘the one’ you’ll need.
My aids won't synchronise?

– oh yes they will – send us your remaining aid and we’ll pair it up with the replacement.
It'll be too tricky for me?

– OHHHH no it won’t be. Just 3 simple steps and we’ll have you have you back hearing in stereo at an affordable price.
The 3 steps of ‘looking for an oldie’ (or how to replace a lost or broken hearing aid):
Step 1

Find and buy your aid (we can help you with this by rummaging in the Affordable Hearing Drawers.
Step 2

Send us your remaining hearing aid and audiogram. We’ll programme them up as a pair and post them back.
Step 3

Receive your returned hearing aids, pop them in and get back to enjoying better hearing.
How about a game of 'guess the oldie'?
Can you spot your ‘oldie’ in here? To make it slightly harder we’ve mixed our colours up. Bonus points if you don’t zoom in!

Oticon Nera 2 Pro
We think this is a bit of a tricky one (unless you looked at the writing!). The Oticon Nera 2 Pro looks very like the Oticon OPN range. The start of Oticon bluetooth hearing aids.

Oticon Oldies
OK, 1000 points if you get these! We have no idea. However, we love the combined box and aid styling. Sooooo chic. Well done legacy Oticon, these were beautiful.
Unitron Moxi
So these are Unitron Moxi from a time before kisses. We won’t hold that against them as they’re so pretty. We think they look like tiny butterflies to whisper in your ears.
Phonak Naida
No extra points for guessing these as Phonak Naida’s. It’s written plain as day on the said of them. Need a bit of extra power? These beauties are for you. Or just one?
Resound Dot
OK so these Resound are more dot dot dash era of communication than dot com. However, like you they’re great for their age. Looked after well they’ll keep going forever.
Phonak Quest

Phonak Oldies
These really are Phonak Oldies. Who cares! Age is just a number and these are beauties. We think Phonak should release a range of ‘with it in old cases’ (sound familiar?)

The round-up and the solution:
The round-up:

Like the weedkiller of the same name our replacement scheme in very effective. Unlike the weedkiller of the same name it is good for the environment. Unlike a liberal spraying of roundup no bees will be hurt in the replacement of just one lost or broken hearing aid. In fact, quite the opposite. Buying just one hearing aid, particularly an affordable refurbished one (when that’s all you need) will help reduce, reuse and recycle resources. It will save you money and help the planet. Win, win. We’re here whenever you need us!
Age is just a number (you've got ours!).

Please do get in touch with us in all the usual ways. We don’t mind how old (you or) your lost hearing aid is. We have some of everything and revel in finding the lost (hearing aid) cause. We love a challenge!! Why not pop over to our gallery. We’re sometimes so excited to receive a particularly old one we write all about it over there!

Help Us Help Others Hear (HUHOH)
Less of a hooha, more of a HUHOH. Like us a hearing aid is never too old. Do you have any single hearing aids littering up the corners of a drawer? Languishing with no purpose (we’re still talking bout hearing aids and not Gen Z!). We can’t get Gen Z out of bed and working. However, we can put old hearing aids to good use. Either here, at home in the UK or overseas as part of our ‘Helping Others Hear’ programme. We do our best to re-use all hearing aids. If not, we’ll recycle them. We have a zero to landfill commitment. Have you any ‘oldies’ (or otherwise – we love them all!) needing company? Recycling your hearing aids has never been easier. Just parcel them up, write FREEPOST, AFFORDABLE HEARING on them and pop them in the post. Please do include your contact details so we can let you know when they arrive safely.

Looking for an Oldie – Case Study
A horror story (with a happy ending)!! – AKA: When the dog eats your hearing aid (not your homework)!
In case you’ve decided to listen to the whole of Carole King in her living room and need something else to read to justify sitting for a moment longer! Here’s one of our ‘just need one hearing aids case studies’:

This week our wonderful audiologist Nigel is off Affordable Hearoe’ing to save the day (again) for a gentlemen (we’re going to call him John as we’ve changed all names in respect of privacy) in exactly that predicament. Having struggled with a fiddly receiver that had come loose from one of his Phonak Marvel (M) 90 Rechargeable (R) hearing aids John asked his son (we’re calling him Andy!) for help. Andy took it home to have a more leisurely look in better light (sound familiar?). Having managed to secure the receiver wire once more the hearing aid was sitting on Andy’s desk waiting to be taken back when it fell into the jaws of fate.
Or more accurately the playful chops of a faithful but playful Cockerpoo (let’s call her Jane). We often harp on about how resilient hearing aids are (they truly are), however, this time the hearing aid lost the fight! We haven’t named the unfortunate hearing aid and nor will we (that would be a bit crazy – wouldn’t it? You name them if you feel like it!). The unnamed hearing aid was no match for Jane though.

The sting in the 'tale':

Andy, anxious about John’s risk of becoming socially isolated (and the related increased risk of dementia (that’s a topic for another day)), called the audiologist that John had initially bought the hearing aids from. Naughty Jane’s playful hearing aid nibbling was going to cost nearly £1500.00. The cost of a new replacement Phonak M90R with programming. Or as John’s hearing aids were a few years old it was suggested it might be a good idea to look at buying a new pair at around £3500.00. Yikes, Janes chomping of John’s hearing aid was getting less like a Bungle and Zippy tale from the round window and more like The Amityville Horror by the second.
The Hollywood ending (no caped crusaders –( just Nigel) swinging through the trees)).
However, a quick trip down ChatGPT lane in the ‘where can I buy a refurbished Phonak Audeo M90r hearing aid’ (search) engine later and ta da Andy was halfway to ‘Sortedville’ for less than half the price. Within a few days, for a fraction of the price of new, John was happily hearing the world in fantastic Phonak stereo. Enjoying everything a well fitted and programmed hearing aid provides. As our Affordable Hearing Wombles know: hearing aids aren’t just super clever tiny bits of technology, they’re also little bridges to the world. Creating connection and community.
